Smart And Simple Terran Attacks

By Eric Bator

Introduction
The Terrans are the human race in SC2, and also the most defensive race in the game. Even though the Terran race is the focus of the single player game, many of the strongest units are unavailable when fighting other players. This will probably change in the future once the Zerg and Protoss expansion packs arrive.

Terran's are usually a very challenging opponent in the multiplayer game. Terran's can use numerous options to counteract their opponent due to the species' adaptability. One of the Terran's best defensive skills is the ability to move the command centers to a different area as the game continues, with all the units it can carry within it. Granted this would be a more useful tool if the maps were bigger, but can still be very useful if the strategy is used at the right time.

Overall Strategies
By using Siege Tanks, Bunkers, and Supply Depots, in addition to your Command Center, novices generally wall in and think they are impregnable. Be sure to utilize quick soldiers like Reapers and Hellions to amplify your reach as much as you can, otherwise eventually your command center will be overwhelmed no matter how powerful your defense is.

It's critical to constantly improving your economy, buildings, and technology as you wall in. Scouting and harassing while doing this is crucial. Additionally, don't underrate your SCV units - they are not only defensive units, but can be sent on attack as well. SCV units cannot inflict much damage, but can fix other machine units while in a battle as well as construct bunkers and turrets. So long as they are defended well, they can be the difference between a victory and losing.

To learn about additional Terran strategies, including build orders, scouting secrets, and micro and macro techniques, take a look at the best Terran Strategies

Hellions and Marines
Constructing Marines and Hellions at the start of the war is a good starting battle cheese tactic. A speedy attack with these troops at the start of the war will destroy most enemy troops. Just make sure not to let the opposing player to tech up first or your troops won't get far.

Marines, Marauders, and Medivacs
Another effective tactic that utilizes 2 symbiotic units is to develop Marauders and Marines. To perform this tactic well, make sure to build Marines as soon as you can and to fix them before they are destroyed. Try to heal your units by pulling them out of battle if they're near death. The Zerg will have an extraordinarily tough time opposing this tactic. Marauders are slow, tough soldiers that are hard to kill|, and can obstruct attacking troops. Be careful, because Marines are really easy to destroy from behind. However, they are very powerful when attacking in numbers, and can attack both land and air troops. Begin to contribute Medivacs as the fight continues. This early war offensive strategy is really difficult to beat.

Banshee Rush
The last Terran cheese attack strategy is to quickly improve your technology and then produce Banshees. Use them to take out as many early game enemy units as they can. You must attempt this tactic by quickly building a refinery and then concentrating on all the technology needed to develop Banshee units. A significant issue that you need to be on the alert for when trying the Banshee Rush is to hide it from your foe. If you're scouted and the foe determines this out, then this strategy almost definitely will be ineffective. If you use a decoy technique at the start and can stay hidden, then you will have an almost guaranteed victory.
