When most people think about a wireless hotspot, Wifi comes to mind. The problem with Wifi though is that it's usually tied down by a wired internet solution such as cable or DSL. Ultimately, the wired connection underneath restricts where the hotspot can be located. But what if you were to pair that Wifi with wireless internet instead? Although that would definitely be thinking outside of the box, it's possible to do this easily and seamlessly with a cellular internet connection and the right equipment.
Cellular internet has advanced quite a bit in the last few years. Before the current generation of service, there was the 3G network. That network had the potential to provide a decent wireless solution for people across large cities, but for some reason it never really panned out. It became mostly synonymous with cellular phones instead of powerful portable computing devices. The former has fairly modest requirements, while the latter cannot really be satisfied with 3G. Then along came 4G internet and the landscape changed completely. In fact, 3G would have become obsolete if not for the fact that it's currently much more widespread. Even cable and DSL have a new competitor to worry about. All of a sudden those services look dated and bland in comparison. It's not like they have a speed advantage neither. The latest cellular connection actually beats both of those two options out most of the time.
Speed aside, the biggest appeal of a 4G connection is the fact that it can be used all over town. With it, your whole city becomes a wireless hotspot. You wouldn't be limited to visiting expensive coffee shops or book stores that charge you by the hour. You also wouldn't have to contend for seats at the local library that has Wifi. Instead, you can go wherever you want. If you'd be more productive at the park, at a lake, or at the beach, then you could choose to go to one of those places instead. Unfortunately, the coverage area isn't comprehensive just yet. It's possible that you could lose connection if you move around a lot and over a wide area. Luckily, there are plans available where you can have your service connect to the more widespread but slower 3G network whenever you lose 4G signal. Such a plan would be perfect for people that always want to be connected.
What if you have multiple devices that you'd like to connect to the internet? It's also possible that your friends would like to use your connection too whenever they go with you somewhere. There is equipment available from 4G providers that would turn your connection into a hotspot. The implications of this technology are truly amazing. Not only can you create a hotspot anywhere in your city, but you could even make one while in transit and on the move, such as when you're in your car. If that doesn't amaze you, chances are you're a really hard person to please. Try having all of your friends connected at broadband speed in you car while driving somewhere and you're bound to at least be slightly impressed.
